Our newest pattern has been released! The Calliope Pinafore Dress is a semi-fitted dress with crossover back straps designed to be worn over a lightweight top or T=Shirt. It is designed for stable knit fabrics such as Ponte de Roma, Scuba, Stretch Crepe and Cotton Lycra and comes with lots of options so that you can create lots of different looks all from the same pattern!
Skirt Options
Calliope comes with 3 skirt options - Circle, Flared and Straight. This gives the pattern a lot of versatility as each skirt type gives the dress a completely different look.
The circle skirt gives the dress such a vintage look and will fulfill your desire to twirl and swish as you walk! Check out these gorgeous circle skirt dresses made by Ruth, Kelsy and Katharina.
The second skirt option is the flared skirt which is a great choice if you want a skirt that has a bit of shape and movement but without as much drama as the circle skirt. Or perhaps you're looking for a less fabric-hungry option! Check out these beautiful flared skirt dresses made by Jenny, Bryn, Jessica and Ruth.
The final skirt option on the Calliope Pinafore Dress is the Straight skirt. This option allows you to take the classic look of the pencil skirt and give it a cool twist by adding bib and straps. Have a look at these beautiful straight skirt dresses made by Kirsty and Ruth.
Strap Closure
The Calliope Pinafore Dress has three different straps closure methods - buckles, buttons or simple sewn on straps. Each option creates a whole new look for the dress and they also allow for different sewing abilities.
The button option gives a proper dungaree style look to the dress. Take a look at this beautiful dress made by Jenny in denim-look cotton lycra with jean style buttons. Such a simple detail creates the effect of a real denim dress!
The second option is dungaree style buckles. These can be bought easily online or in haberdasheries and are available in a range of different coloured metals. They can be a bit fiddly to install but it's worth it to get a cool retro style pinafore look.
If you're not adventurous enough to try the buckle or button option or are pushed for time, then the simple sewn on straps is the option for you! It still looks great but allows for a quick and easy sew.
The Calliope Pinafore Dress has so many options to allow you to create something completely individual that compliments your own personal style. You can really let your imagination run wild and create something unique or opt for an understated classic look. The choice is yours.
