The Vixen Headband is such a great way of using up scraps. I love to make a matching headband using leftover fabric from making a dress or top. I sew a lot with knit fabrics and the Vixen Headband is designed for woven, so I thought I'd share this quick hack for making it with stretch fabric.
To make the headband work with stretch fabric and to ensure it doesn't stretch out or get misshapen it is necessary to use interfacing. The interfacing will restrict the stretch and strengthen the fabric.
Follow this simple step by step guide
Using the headband pattern piece cut one out of your fabric and one of interfacing.
Iron the interfacing on to the wrong side of the fabric pressing well so that it attaches. Make sure the shiny side of the interfacing is face down against the fabric.
Trim off any excess from the edges
Then follow the rest of the pattern instructions as normal. Download the pattern here if you haven't already got it - Vixen Wired Headband – SirenStitches
And there you have it, a headband made out of stretch fabric. Now you can have headbands to match all your stretch dresses and tops!
I made this one out of a stretch rib knit from ABC Fabric - UK Online Store. I had some fabric left over from making a summer tank dress and the Vixen headband was the perfect way to accessorize it!
I hope you have fun making the Vixen headband out of stretch fabric. Make sure to tag me in your posts on social media as I'd love to see your makes.
